How to read eBay sold comps for Pokémon cards

To price a card accurately, look at what it has actually sold for on eBay, not what people are asking. Filter to Sold items, read the most recent 10-15 matching sales, and ignore the outliers. Here's how to do it without fooling yourself.

1. Filter to Sold items

Search the exact card, then apply eBay's Sold items filter. Active listings are wishes; sold listings are the market. On eBay UK, work in £ against eBay UK results, that's your buyer pool.

2. Match like with like

Only compare sales of the genuinely same product:

• Set and card number: the same artwork appears across sets at very different values.
• Condition: Near Mint isn't the same product as a played copy.
• Finish and variant: holo, reverse holo, first edition and promo stamps all move price.
• Raw vs graded, and for graded, the same grade and grading company. See pricing & valuing.

3. Ignore the outliers

Two buyers in a bidding war, or a mispriced Best Offer accepted quietly, aren't the market. Throw out the obvious high and low and read the cluster in the middle. Aim near the recent average for the condition, nudging up for mint copies and down for wear.

4. Watch the date

Prices move with releases, reprints, tournaments and hype, so weight recent sales over older ones. A price from six months ago can be badly out of date.
